
JUST THE FACTS
Our magazine is distributed through subscriptions, schools and newsstands. What If? is published 4 times a year with a cover price of $5.95 (plus GST). A subscription is $24.99 (price includes the GST) for a one-year subscription. There are educator/library sets available. Please check the subscription section for current prices. The size is 8-1/4" x 10-1/2" with 48 pages.
WHO SHOULD SUBMIT?
We are currently accepting material from Canadians 19 years old and under.
WHAT SHOULD I SUBMIT?
We accept short fiction up to 3000 words in any genre. We also accept poetry in any style up to 20 lines in length. Our Viewpoint section features journalism and opinion pieces of young Canadians up to 1000 words. Editorial and cartoon strips are also accepted. If you would like to do a book review for What If? please contact us for a list of available books.
We always look for illustrators and photographers. We look for cover photography and/or illustrations that highlight the What If? theme. Our stories and poems are illustrated by creative young Canadians and we also feature a section of freestanding artwork and photography. Please do not send original material. Email submissions are best.
We do not have themed issues and chances of publication will be greatly improved by reading our magazine.
HOW SHOULD I SUBMIT?
Please do not query first; send the complete manuscript. We accept photocopies and computer printouts. Please type in Times New Roman or Arial fonts, minimum 10 font size (no hand written material please). We accept simultaneous submissions if they are identified. Artwork is accepted as indicated above. PLEASE be sure all submissions are identified with name, address, phone number, age and e-mail address. Always include a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) for our response and/or return of material if you are submitting by snail mail. Our current response time is three months.
RIGHTS AND PAYMENT
We expect first rights to publish but the ownership of original material remains with the author/artist. We are unable to accept previously published material where the author/artist does not own full rights. Excerpts may be used in promotional materials to expand our readership We provide three contributor’s copies upon publication
