Stone Road Mall Fiction Contest

Our current contest theme is humour. Everyone loves a

good laugh. Laughter is the best medicine. Give our editors a good belly laugh and you could be a What If? winner.

Deadline: June 15, 2010, to be published Fall 2010.

Looking Ahead: Our winter issue contest theme is ‘What if…’. This leaves things pretty open for you. What if pigs could fly? What if the sky turned green? What if world peace broke out? Send us your ‘what if’ themed story and you could be a What If? winner.

Deadline: September 15, 2010, to be published Winter 2010

Looking Even Further Ahead: Our winter contest genre is ‘fantasy’. Fairies, gnomes, and sprites? Magicians, spirits, and elves? What kind of other-worldly tale do you have under your hat? Spin us a yarn about faraway places and unknown realms and you could be a What If? winner.

Deadline: December 15, 2010 to be published in Spring 2011

Fiction Contest Prizes:

  • First Place: $100 Stone Road Mall Gift Certificate plus publication in What If?
  • Second Place: Publication in What If?

*Winners of the Stone Road Mall gift certificate can arrange to receive gift certificates for stores in their area.

Penguin Poetry Contest

Our current contest theme relates to the image on the right. What does this picture say to you? Is this the hand of Time? Is time running out? Create a poem based on this image and you could be a What If? winner.

Deadline: June 15, 2010, to be published Fall 2010.

Looking Ahead: Our winter issue contest theme is ‘eating’. Are you eating toomuch? Does someone you know have an eating disorder? Why do some have more than enough to eat and others have nothing? Send us your poem and you could be a What If? winner.

Deadline: September 15, 2010, to be published Winter 2010

Looking Even Further Ahead: Here’s another image for you to work with. Is this some sort of alien cornered by angry villagers? Perhaps a modern-day Frankenstein created by man? Why are his hands open in supplication? Who is he and what does he want? Send us the poem you create from this image and you could be a What If? winner.

Deadline: December 15, 2010 to be published in Spring 2011

Poetry Contest Prizes:

  • First Place: Penguin Books Prize Pack valued at $50 and publication in What If?
  • Second Place: Publication in What If?
